Rants

Right now I'm sitting at the computer and I'm furious inside. There are so many things that I am furious about. so I guess I'm just going to rant... please bear(? bare?, i have no idea) with me.

I have a friend, who I think is about to make a huge mistake, she wants to get involved with a 19 year old college student, who has a 6month old child. Shes going to be moving to a tiny town in north central Iowa, that's homophobic, and unfriendly to her gay ass. shes moving there and she has no problems leaving her friends, her friends, and almost everyone that she cares about. Personally, I think whats worse is that shes doing what all of my friends have done, they've left or theyve cut me off and it hurts. I'm like two inches from not talking to her ever again. I really really hate this but i know that if i back down I'm going to loose all respect that i have for myself.

ok the second thing that I'm having a problem with right now is that i just got told that i was wrong about something when it comes to politics. admittedly, not a political science major, so i know that i don't know everything, but still, i would like to think that im fairly adept and knowledgeable. I got told that tax cuts for the rich, were a good thing. that they help stimulate the economy. and basically i got told that i should take classes and learn about it. first of all, I'm an informal student of politics, so I'm fairly confident that i know what im taking about. I'm also fairly adept at the general trends of politics. and while its true that i have not studied that particular time period in American history/politics I'm fairly sure that the vast majority of Americans (aka those who are not in the 1% richest population) were negatively affected by Regan's administration. I mean there is a reason why hes the poster-boy for the republican party!!! I hate this, oh my god i hate this. please don't treat me like I know nothing. please remember that i am an intelligent human being, if you believe something, come to the table with the sources and where you got it from. NOT JUST I KNOW THIS. that is the one way you can really really piss me off. im going to admit that im wrong, first thing, I know this, but don't just blow me off.
SO ANGRY!!!!

When people are about to make huge mistakes, no matter what anyone else says, they'll end up making it. Believe me, I know. The best thing to do is let them know what your thoughts are, lay it out for them, and then let them be. You'll be wasting your time doing otherwise - and if later on down the road, they realize that they made a mistake, if they really are your friend, they'll come back and apologize.

As far as the politics thing goes - the person you spoke to is, I'm guessing, a Republican? Trickle-down economics, in theory, is a reasonable economic policy - give the rich tax breaks so that they can spend more and plug their money into the bottom. However, since 98% of the US population is middle to lower income, that doesn't work! The government has to plug money into the bottom because we, the middle-to-low income class are the ones who are the majority of the consumers. Because of Reaganomics, we went from the world's largest creditor to the largest debtor because our budget deficits rose from the millions to the trillions. You should tell the person who told you that tax cuts for the rich is the good thing to shove it.

Think of it this way: it's kind of like communism. In theory, equal grounds for everyone sounds great! But if you break it down and look at history, communism and human nature just don't mix. Same with trickle down economics...it may be plausible, but in practice, its not a realistic approach to our economic problems.

After all that then, I agree Ambs, you are a very intelligent human being and anyone who thinks you're wrong is a...well [insert all sorts of expletives here]

Okay, pardon the reply on this particular post, but I wanted to respond to your comment on my blog.
I did know that the Vietnam conflict ensued long before LBJ came into the Presidency. And that the Vietnam War was never a declared war.
And the War Powers Act (that I mentioned in my post) are the acts that require the Presidents to ask for Congressional approval within thirty days. My question is, wars such as the Gulf Wars and the current war - were they declared by Congress? It might be a stupid question but I'm wondering...
